How to Change the Plane Before Drawing Solidworks

The Solidworks is one of the all-time 3D solid modeler which provides better feel to make 3D models. I of the important and most useful reference geometry characteristic tool is that "Reference Aeroplane or Plane". In this SolidWorks tutorials post, yous are going to see how to create a reference plane or airplane in Solidworks graphics interface and its application or uses.

What is SolidWorks Reference Plane (Aeroplane Feature)?

You know well-nigh the basic planes such as Top aeroplane, Right plane and Front plane contained in sketch area. Whenever you want to create new blueprint using the Solidworks, you are starting from cosmos of role file and by opening sketch expanse you are doing the basic drawing using sketch tools and apply extrude boss/base of operations feature to add together material into it.

After that you need to add additional material having a sure distance away on earlier created part model (say, reference to model), then the basic planes bachelor in sketch area is non helpful. For creating reference geometry, Solidworks provide new plane tool called "Reference Plane or Plane Feature".

Reference plane is feature tool which help to create airplane parallel, perpendicular, coincident or angle to selected plane or face up etc. It besides helps to create planes making Solidworks assembly documents.

Let us run across how to use Reference Plane in Solidworks cad program.

How to Create Reference Planes SolidWorks

Step one: Create Part File

Open up the Solid Works and New part File. If you don't know it, read how to create new part File. Select the Airplane (e.g. Summit Plane) and normalize using the "Normal To" Push.

Also create rectangular 3D solid box using rectangle sketch tool and extrude dominate feature which is shown below. When you are going to exercise it, you can utilize it with proper dimesion to rectangle using Smart Dimension tool.

Step ii: Select Reference Planes

You lot can select the "reference airplane" in two manner; one from the features command manager and other from the insert menubar.

From Features Control manager

Go to features control director and detect the "Reference Geometry" and click on the down arrow using your mouse pointer. Then you tin can see the "Plane" selection at the first in the driblet down drag menu. Click on it to select it.

Or

From Insert Menubar

Go to "Insert menu" in the Solidworks menubar and click on it. Then yous volition see elevate drop down menu; from that select "reference geometry" and you can see side drib downwards carte and click on the "Plane" option.

Step 3: Reference Plane or Plane Property Manger

Then the "Reference plane property manager" simply appears beside of your 3D solid box, which is shown marked in the below prototype.

Inside the property manager, you lot tin can come across the "First Reference, Second Reference and Third reference" options. Each reference helps to create the planes according to your face or edge or point choice as y'all needed.

The "Second and Tertiary Reference" uses but when to define plane, if it's necessary.

Note: All you need to ensure that your combination of reference and constraints given are truthful and fully defined. You lot can try various combinations of reference face or constraints by looking into "message" department in the property manager. After pick, it shows "Fully divers",  you tin create that reference aeroplane on the office file.

I am going to show you lot, how it works in 3d box given above image.

Plane using First Reference:-

Click on whatever confront of the 3D box to create aeroplane parallel to it. Here I was clicked on the top face of the box and aeroplane is created with first = 10mm which is shown below.

You can likewise create parallel lot of planes with set offset distance by changing the "number of planes to create" section which marked below.

Using the "Commencement Reference" solitary y'all can create "Coincident" (offset to selected plane =0 mm) and set offset to whatever number to create which is shown higher up.

Create Aeroplane using Second Reference:-

It is uses when you accept to define the references and constraints to create plane such every bit midplane, angle to edge, create plane diagonally with opposite edges of 3d box etc.

Midplane

You can also create "Midplane" by clicking on the button or select the top and bottom face up of the 3D box which shown below.

For that select to faces adjacent to border. In this tutorial "Face-5" every bit First reference and "Face-iv" as 2d reference which is shown beneath.

Create Plane Diagonally using Opposite Edges of Box

Select the "Edge-one" as Get-go reference and "Border-2" equally 2nd reference to create plane diagonally to rectangular 3D box.

Only similar that you can create any plane angle to edges by selecting the reverse edges shown below.

Create Plane using Tertiary References:-

You can also create diagonal plane in rectangular box using the get-go, second and 3rd references. Select the Opposite vertex or corner points of the box and click on the peak confront of the box. Information technology will create diagonal plane similar as shown in the figure.
